AMENDMENTS
Only Amendments that address truly Constitutional issues will get our support. Our Constitution is supposed to be the Supreme Law of the State, establishing guidelines for government, fundamental rights belonging to Floridians, and principles by which we are to govern. Statutes, on the other hand, are supposed to be the instrument we use to enact laws through legislation in our Republican form of government. We may agree with the content but cannot endorse turning the Consitution into a statute book.
No. 1 NO
No. 2 YES
No. 3 NO
No. 1 Constitutional Amendment Limitation on the Assessment of Real Property Used for Residential Purposes (This amendment will add another
section to the Constitution – Article VII section 4; Article XII, Section 42)
Author’s Note: This should NOT be a constitutional amendment. This should be legislation.
We would vote NO on Amendment 1
A YES VOTE FOR AMENDMENT 1 Would create a Constitutional Right:
• That prohibits the consideration of any change or improvement made to real property used for residential purposes to improve the property's resistance to flood damage in determining the assessed value of such property for ad valorem taxation purposes.
PROBLEMS WITH THIS AS A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT –
1. When questions and problems arise in the application of this exemption, an ADDITIONAL Constitutional Amendment could be necessary and require YEARS to resolve the problems.
2. If this were simple legislation as should be, this could be handled in a matter of weeks or months.
If this amendment is passed, any improvement made to the home for flood related improvements would not be added to the property value for taxation purposes.

No. 2 Abolishing Constitution Revision Commission (This amendment will AMEND the Constitution – Article II, Section 5; Article XI, Sections 2, 5)
Author’s Note: This is a valid Constitutional Amendment for the ballot We would vote YES on Amendment 2
A YES VOTE FOR AMENDMENT 2 Would create eliminate the Constitutional requirement for a Constitution Revision Commission.
Article II, Section 5; Article XI, Sections 2, 5 of the Florida Constitution requires 37 people be appointed every ten years to review the Florida Constitution and suggest Amendments to the Constitution.
If this amendment is passed, Constitutional Amendments would be left to the sole discretion of the people and the legislature instead of group of unelected bureaucrats insisting on the amending of the Florida Constitution.

No. 3 Additional Homestead Property Tax Exemption for Specified Critical Public Services Workforce (This amendment will ADD text and a section to
the Constitution – Article VII, Section 6; Article XII)
Author’s Note: This should NOT be a constitutional amendment. This should be legislation.
We would vote NO on Amendment 3
A YES VOTE FOR AMENDMENT 3 Would create a Constitutional Right:
To an additional homestead exemption for a classroom teacher, a law enforcement officer, a correctional officer, a firefighter, an emergency medical technician, a paramedic, a child welfare services professional, an active-duty member of the United States Armed Forces, or a member of the Florida National Guard
PROBLEMS WITH THIS AMENDMENT:
1. One might ask why certain professions in Florida should have a Constitutional Right to lower taxes? Why shouldn’t everyone who works hard in Florida deserve lower taxes?
2. When there are problems with application of these taxes that require adjusting, an ADDITIONAL Constitutional Amendment would be required and could require YEARS to resolve the problems.
3. If this were simple legislation as should be, this could be handled in a matter of weeks or months.
